Changing TV channels
I stopped on "Haylur" on Sunday. And I got rather important information
in those 2-3 minutes. It turned out that the PACE 1416 resolution on Karabakh
issue wasn’t so unfavorable for us as it put forward the idea of referendum. As
proof of it "Haylur" cited the following fragment of the second point
of the report: "The Assembly reaffirms the independence and secession of
a regional territory from a state may only be achieved through a lawful and peaceful
process based on the democratic support by the inhabitants of such territory."
The commentator of "Haylur" finished the sentence here. While an obstacle
was put in the resolution after which the cited sentence was continued: "
and not in the wake of an armed conflict leading to ethnic expulsion and de facto
annexation of such territory to another state." That is the article of this
resolution may be formulated in the following way: " The territory may become
independent by democratic way, while you, Armenians, have done just the opposite,
you have annexed that territory to your state with the use of armed forces consequently
that way of independence is closed for you." If there is any debt that the
meaning of this point of the resolution is just that then it is worth to read
once more David Atkinson’s interview to BBC where he says that the principle of
nations’ self-determination isn’t applicable in case of Karabakh. Are the
approaches of PACE and Atkinson fair? Certainly, no. The Armenians haven’t occupied
those territories for their whim. Neither they occupied for their innate aggression.
If we occupied no Armenian would remain in Karabakh. And if we give now without
any international guarantees they also won’t remain. Consequently it was simply
self-defense for us. But we must agree that Atkinson and PACE don’t think in the
same way but Tigran Torosian and Shavarsh Kocharian didn’t manage to assure the
Europeans in our reality /other members of Armenia didn’t even try/. The
matter here isn’t only propaganda: deceiving people and say that everything is
all right. The problem is more serious: the authority itself doesn’t want to face
the truth. There are luck of courage and foresight. And as it is known the most
dangerous type of lie is self-deception. Aram Abrahamian
