December 22,2007 00:00

New Gallup Poll results prove it.

The Armenian Sociological Association polls held from December 1-9 were presented to the political forces. The results of the poll have been analyzed by “Baltic Surveys/The Gallup”. International Republic Institute, IRI, has ordered the research, and the USAID has financed it.

In comparison with the previous poll results, the number of people who think that the country develops in right direction has been reduced. Now only 41% among 1200 citizens think in that way. Those people who think that economic situation in Armenia has been improved within last three months have also reduced. Only 25% think that the economic situation has been improved.

First three problems which worry the population are unchangeable: unemployment, social-political situation and Nagorno-Karabagh conflict.

For 5% of the polled citizens the establishment of democracy is very important.

We should note that this time “Heritage” Party has deciphered the “Gallup” research. So it becomes clear that the rating of both Raffi Hovhanisyan  and “Heritage” Party have risen. Now 57% has a positive attitudes towards the Party and 63% towards Raffi Hovhanisyan.

But people are more interested in how the people are going to vote if the elections are held on Sunday. Again 29% of voters are going to vote for the Prime Minister. 12% of voters are ready to vote for Raffi Hovhannisyan and Arthur Baghdasaryan. We should note that the ratings of both candidates have risen.

18% percent of the polled citizens don’t want to vote for any candidate but the number of people who are going to participate in the lections have been risen. 67% of the polled citizens are sure that the parliamentary elections weren’t free and fair and only 27% believe in the authorities that they will hold fair elections.
