The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Members Think That the Proposals of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Are Illogical and Self-Interested

March 27,2013 10:54

The RPA parliamentary group has made a proposal to different parliamentary groups to present their draft of the statement to be adopted at a probable National Assembly extraordinary meeting. In response to that proposal, the ANC parliamentary group put forward the only draft, on which an agreement could be reached. In that draft, the ANC considers the illegitimate government and the disruption of the constitutional order as number one political problem, and in order to restore the constitutional order, it proposes to make all the amendments to the Electoral Code that the opposition has proposed, hold hearings and discussions of representatives of political forces with an agenda of restoring the disrupted constitutional order in Armenia through a snap presidential election and a snap parliamentary election. www.aravot.am inquired of the RPA MPs whether they thought of the proposals made by the ANC as logical and doable. Artak Zakaryan, the chairman of the National Assembly foreign relations commission, described them as illogical from the political point of view and stated that they didn’t reflect the current political reality. Then he added: “Those are proposals that don’t justify the aim in any way. Those are rather proposals made for political benefit.” In response to our observation whether the disruption of the constitutional order was not a serious problem, Mr. Zakaryan said: “Who said that the constitutional order is disrupted? It is an artificial formulation with artificial proposals. Those are proposals made in one’s own political interests, whereas those should have aimed at easing the current public discontent, those should have been proposals that would bring about political agreements, but those are rather proposals disrupting political cohesion.” Artak Davtyan, the chairman of the National Assembly science, education, culture, youth and sports standing commission, didn’t attach much importance to those proposals, stating that there were more important issues in the country. Then he added: “The ANC takes hard the fact of losing the opposition laurels and tries to be more Catholic than the Pope by these actions and to take the initiative away from their and our colleagues to a certain extent, since whatever we say, the fact is that Freedom Square is ‘conquered’ by the Heritage Party, and they want to find a counterplay in this situation.”
