Side effects of pain meds can be avoided with Traumeel

October 30,2013 13:57

Emax Health. A lot of people suffer from musculoskeletal injuries daily and they often feel the only effective relief for them is the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as diclofenac. The fear of the long list of adverse reactions associated with diclofenac, and the other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, coupled with the high incidence of actually being hit with these side effects, makes effective pain management very difficult. Patients are therefore generally relieved to learn that a natural remedy, Traumeel, works as well, if not better than, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for the management of acute musculoskeletal injuries.

Reporting on Traumell as an option to anti-inflammatory drugs, the International Journal of General Medicine writes that Traumeel is an option to anti-inflammatory drugs. There has been an increase in the number of musculoskeletal injuries. Aside from rest, ice, compression, and elevation, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are also generally prescribed and available without a prescription to limit inflammation and to control pain. There are however real potential side effects with these drugs.

Traumeel is an alternative option to drugs for treatment of the symptoms which are associated with acute musculoskeletal injuries, which includes pain and swelling. Traumeel is made from a fixed combination of biological and mineral extracts. Traumeel has demonstrated comparable effectiveness to NSAIDs in regard to reducing the symptoms of inflammation, improving recovery rates, and improving mobility, along with a very safe profile. As a matter of fact, present information has suggested that Traumeel is an anti-inflammatory agent that is at least as effective as NSAIDs, while generally being better tolerated.

A safe natural alternative to drug treatment for acute musculoskeletal injuries is significant because they happen so often. Acute musculoskeletal injuries include sprains, strains, tendinopathy, and stress fractures. These disorders involve ligaments, muscles, tendons, bones, and the associated neurovasculature. Common causes of these injuries, which often occur in sports, include sudden impact, muscular overloads, or the repetitive use of a joint or of a particular muscle group. These injuries are often associated with significant short-term disability which can be costly to sufferers.

The use of NSAIDs have become common for the management of acute musculoskeletal injuries. These have therefore become among the most widely used medications. Although these drugs are often reliable and effective when used appropriately for pain relief and for the reduction of inflammation, side effects associated with NSAIDs are very common. Reporting on risks associated with NSAIDs, Deborah Mitchell writes, “NSAIDs, Especially Diclofenac, Raise Second Heart Attack Risk.” The most frequent side effects with NSAIDs are:

1-Gastritis

2-
Upper gastrointestinal ulcer and bleeding.

3-Increased risk of myocardial infarctions

4-Hypertension

5-Heart failure

6-Liver damage

7-Blood dyscrasias

8-Rashes

9-Hearing and vision dysfunction.

To add to these problems over the counter NSAID analgesics are often taken inappropriately. Furthermore, although NSAIDs may be effective at reducing pain and inflammation, they may not be the appropriate treatment, particularly for those who frequently participate in sports. Although masking pain with these drugs may allow an individual to continue their sport or other daily activities in the short term, this could lead to a worsening of the injury without realization of the damage which is still being inflicted.

Traumeel is made from a fixed combination of diluted plant and mineral extracts and has been available over the counter in Germany and Austria for decades. Traumeel is available in about 50 countries, including the USA, at this time. Traumeel is used for the treatment of acute musculoskeletal injuries, such as sprains and traumatic injuries, and as supportive therapy for pain and inflammation of the musculoskeletal system. A German physician, Dr Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg, developed Traumeel in the 1930s by combining botanical and mineral substances to produce this natural medicine for the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and inflammation. Traumeel appears to act by increasing the speed of the healing process.

Overall the evidence has been compelling in support of the effectiveness of Traumeel for the treatment of acute musculoskeletal injuries. Traumeel appears to generally be very well tolerated. There are no signs of severe adverse events and no evidence of gastrointestinal bleeding with Traumeel. Yet, as noted, NSAIDs may cause gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding. Furthermore, a recent consensus by international experts on muscle strains has advised against the automatic prescription of NSAIDs for all muscle strains, because they may predispose to recurrences by masking the pain. However, it has been agreed that controlling inflammation may be beneficial to minimize early damage and subsequent loss of function after an injury. Traumeel may therefore offer a good alternative anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent for patients.

Reporting on Traumeel for pain treatment from a ankle injuries, The International Journal of Clinical Practice writes, “Traumeel vs. diclofenac for reducing pain and improving ankle mobility.” Acute ankle sprains are a very common injury which limits activities. The topical diclofenac gel, an NSAID, has demonstrated efficacy in alleviating pain and restoring function. Researchers have compared the topical natural agent, Traumeel, with topical diclofenac gel (1%) in the management of acute ankle sprain. Traumeel was seen to decrease pain and improve joint function to the same extent as diclofenac gel in acute ankle sprain, and was well tolerated. Reporting on Traumeel as an option to treat this condition, Deborah Mitchell writes,“Homeopathic Remedy Good as Drug for Ankle Sprain.”

I have often been made aware of the improved psychological profile of patients when they are given effective natural alternatives to drug treatment. Comments along these lines are frequently made online on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. There has been a lot of interest in other alternatives for pain relief such as meditation as wirtten about by by Kathleen Blanchard,“Meditation surpasses drug effect for pain relief.” The more positive psychological profile of patients improves patient compliance with the natural drug treatment for musculoskeletal injuries with Traumeel, while also benefiting patients in terms of actually avoiding the side effects associated with NSAIDs. This should be of particular interest to sports players, whose disabilities from such injuries can be unusually costly.
