The opportunity of “hitting” from above

January 31,2014 17:31

Last year, on November 12, Ilham Aliyev made an official visit to Ankara and held talks with the Turkish prime minister and the president. During the press conference, one of local journalists allegedly “asked” that you know that the President of Armenia is saying that he will not give Karabakh, moreover, he will capture Mount Ararat. The evident misinformation contained in the second part of this “question” in our journalistic jargon is called a “high pass” which enables the interlocutor (usually, the official) to “hit from above”: in volleyball or tennis, the ball appears to be under the hand, and it creates an opportunity for a strong strike. Everywhere, including in Armenia, the official journalists are giving the very “wonderful passes” to officials.

Taking the opportunity, Erdoğan and Aliyev, apparently violating diplomatic ethics, used a couple of unpleasant words addressed to Serzh Sargsyan, and afterwards, the President of Azerbaijan reiterated his traditional “mantra” of how strong country is Azerbaijan and how poor and miserable is Armenia, and how easily, if desired, he will capture Karabakh. As it was once said by the first president of Armenia, what else the defeated side should be engaged in, if not in propaganda.

In short, as news it was published a few months ago when the event was held. Recently, on some occasion it was re-mentioned in Azerbaijani media and (the most interesting part is coming) has been actively discussed in our websites. Specifically, there is no reason for information. If someone, even Aliyev, has ever said anything bad addressed to the authorities of Armenia, it is already worth mentioning, unless there are fresher topics.

Our country is really not in good shape. But, to confirm it, it seems to me, there is no need to listen to and convey Ilham Aliyev’s opinion with enthusiasm, first, because the latter is extremely “interested person”, and secondly, his country is no way better than ours. In the 21st century, the capacity of the country was not due to oil reserves (which, in fact, sooner or later, will end), but the political and economic mechanisms that make the public relations fair and effective. Neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan has not been able to establish such mechanisms.

When we establish, we would be able to solve the Karabakh problem. Peacefully, with no shooting.
