Daniel Ioannisyan. “EaEU agreement negotiators protected the interests of raw sugar importers.”

September 30,2014 14:45

Daniel Ioannisyan thinks that Armenia as Iran’s ally behaved itself badly. “Serious problems would occur with international customs clearance items”, announced Program Coordinator of “Union of Informed Citizens”, in the conversation with Aravot.am, referring to the draft of Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.

According to him, there would be serious problems associated with different formulations of goods imported to Armenia. He also noted that different Iranian organizations, which transported different products through the territory of Armenia, would also face problems. “We, as Iran’s ally, behaved us badly, we did not consider that Iran is our ally on this matter, we did not consider their interests.” He thinks that it is hard to find positive aspects in the agreement, as the agreement is too negative.

However, according to him, it is positive that the price for the raw sugar will not increase in the coming 10 years. “If we do not sign, the price generally will not grow, not only in ten years, but ever. If our government decides to raise the price, it will be up to us, whereas, thus, it will be up to the Eurasian Economic Union, it will be up to Moscow.” David Ioannisyan considers ridiculous that the negotiations on the issue of raw sugar proceeded so seriously that it has found a place in third section of the agreement, along with military equipment and aircraft, unlike all foods, which are found in Annex 4. “It very interesting that the negotiators are very serious about protecting the interests of raw sugar importers as opposed to medication, vehicles and seeds. It is funny that sugar has attracted this much attention.”
