Little Armenia awarded big prizes to its Olympians

In no country in the world, even incomparable big by the territory and incomparably more developed economically, the Olympic champions and medalists, teams and personal couches, perhaps, are not so honored as in Armenia.  It was apparent during the award ceremony held at the National Opera House, where there was no shortage of awards, material and financial rewards.

First, Gagik Tsarukyan, the President of the National Olympic Committee, donated a luxury apartment (300 sq.m. space, worth of 1 million in an elite building located at the intersection of Abovyan and Tumanyan Streets) to Artur Aleksanyan, a Rio Olympic champion and Greco-Roman wrestler, and a silver medalist Mihran Harutyunyan, whom the whole Armenian community accepts him as a true Olympics champion in Rio.

Gagik Tsarukyan donated three-bedroom apartments to Olympic silver medalist Gor Minasyan (Gyumri) and head coach of the national weightlifting team Pashik Alaverdyan (Yerevan).  Gor Minasyan and Olympic silver medalist Simon Martirosyan were awarded AMD 30 million (each) from the NOC. Greco-Roman wrestling national team chief coach Levon Julfalakyan and Artur Aleksanyan’s personal couch Gevorg Alexanyan was awarded AMD 10 million (each) and AMD 5 million (each) to the 2nd weightlifting team coach Vigen Khachatryan and coaches Ashot and Hakob Pilosyans.

The RA President Serzh Sargsyan awarded high state awards to a number of distinguished in sports world for their great contribution to physical culture and sports development: Gagik Tsarukyan – an Award of Honor, Arthur Alexanyan and Mihran Harutyunyan – 1st Degree Award For Services to the Motherland, Gor Minasyan and Simon Martirosyan –1st degree medal for services to the Motherland, Gevorg Alexanyan and Samvel Gevorgyan – Movses Khorenatsi Medal, National Olympic Committee Secretary General Hrachya Rostomyan and WFA 1st Vice Chairman and CEO Hovhannes Sofoyan and Levon Julfalakyan – 2nd degree medal for the services to Motherland, Pashik Alaverdyan, Ashot and Hakob Pilosyans – a medal of Gratitude.

Samvel Karapetyan, an entrepreneur, President of “Tashir Group” company, President of the Wrestling Federation of Armenia, was also present at the honoring ceremony not empty-handed.  On his behalf, it was announced that Artur Aleksanyan and Mihran Harutyunyan will be awarded USD 100 and 90 thousand, respectively, and the Olympic silver medalist wrestlers – USD 30 thousand.  Their reward ceremony will be held later during the event of the Wrestling Federation of Armenia.
