During the discussion of the law on “Non-Governmental Organizations” presented by the Government to the National Assembly, Republican MP Hayk Babukhanyan complained that examples are constantly brought from European countries, “Do not make the European example an ideal, otherwise, we will have gay parades, I do not want to live in such a country.”  NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov ensured that it does not impend us.  Hayk Babukhanyan responded, “It’s hard to say.  I do not share your optimism.”  Eduard Sharmazanov assured that the majority of those sitting in the National Assembly does not welcome the “colorful parades.”

Justice Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan expressed surprise with regard to Babukhanyan’s discontent, “Frankly speaking, I did not also expect that this discussion would turn into a process of welcoming or rejecting various minorities.”  Republican MP Levon Martirosyan referred to “gay parades” in his speech, saying, “I am generally against the gay parades, particularly in Armenia.”  He told an anecdote that the “gay parade is organized near the offices of traumatology so that the beaten gay is immediately taken to the doctors’.”  The draft reads that the local governments and public authorities should not interfere, impede and interfere with the legitimate activities of NGOs.

Hayk Babukhanyan said that they can get a loan from the Turkish government and direct it for the denial of the Armenian Genocide.  Or, be financed by Azerbaijan and say that no need to fight against Azerbaijanis but against your own people.  The minister replied that the matter is about the legitimate activities of NGOs.  While for other cases, the Ministry of Justice can interfere.  If the activity is legitimate, no one has the right to impede, should there be any doubt, there are numerous leverages.
