Winners of “Anahit” Armenian Film Awards announced

Winners of the first Armenian Film Awards “Anahit” organized by the Armenian National Film Academy were announced on Thursday. The film directed by Mher Mkrtchyan “Life and Struggle” won three awards in the competitions of the Best Feature, Best Operator (Vahagn Ter-Hakobyan) and Best Actor (Samvel Tadevosyan).

Harutyun Khachatryan’s “Deadlock” was acknowledged for the Best Director category, as well as Best Documentary and Scriptwriter (Michael Stamboltsyan, Harutyun Khachatryan).

To note, Harutyun Khachatryan, who also serves as the Chairman of Armenian National Film Academy, handed one of his prizes to Director Anna Arevshatyan for the film “Good Morning”.

“The Film Awards didnt’ include a “Best Debut» category. It is importasnt for us to bring new news to Armenian cinematograpgy, that is why I decided to hand one of my prizes to Anna Arevshatyan  as the best debutant for me,” Khachatryan explained.

Yana Druz (“28.94 Local Time” by Davit Safaryan) was recognized as the Best Actrees, while Michael Antonyan and Vardan Sedrakyan won award in the Best Designer category (“28.94 Local Time” by Davit Safaryan).

Vahagn Hayraetyan and Karen Harutyunyan won Anahit award in the Best Composer (”Good Morning” directed by Ana Arevshatyan) competition. Armine Harutyunyan’s ”Msho Geghen» was named the best in Animation category, while Edgar Baghdasaryan with his ”Simon’s road” won the award for the Short Film.

To note, Armenian National Film Academy received 45 submissions for the first Armenian Film Awards “Anahit”, with 35 members of the Academy voting for the best 14 films to compete in 11 main competition categories: Feature, Documentary, Short Film, Animation, Director, Operator, Scriptwriter, Actor, Actress, Composer, Designer.
Armenian films created from November 2016 to October 2016, produced by state or private studios as well as joint productions with at least 20 percent of Armenian financing and with a creative staff comprising mostly Armenian citizens were allowed to participate in the competition.
