Armenia to have a consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan

Armenia will open a Consulate General in the city of Erbil, the Republic of Iraq.  We learned from the Cabinet session agenda of March 2 that Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian is working in this direction as he thinks that a significant progress has been reported on Armenia and Iraq ties in the last 5-6 years.

“The Embassy of Iraqi Republic is reopened in Yerevan.  Armenian-Iraqi joint intergovernmental committee sessions on economic cooperation are held, as well as business conferences.  In addition, the commodity turnover between the two countries is growing year by year; there are direct flights in the direction of Baghdad-Erbil-Yerevan during the tourism season.  The trade-economic cooperation in the Armenian-Iraqi relations is more seen in Iraqi Kurdistan which is particularly conditioned by security as well as other beneficial factors,” said the Foreign Minister thus explaining the draft decision and the necessity of the Consulate.
