Why does Russia sell weapons to Azerbaijan? Dmitry Kiselyov’s interpretation

March 07,2017 09:24

“Azerbaijan can buy weapons from Israel, the US or Russia.  Russia is the 2nd in the industry of supplying armaments.  There is no political component here.  Business relations are better than the absence of relations in general.  Russia selling weapons to Azerbaijan is ruling Azerbaijan.  I want you to understand correctly: it rules and controls.  An absence of relations is an absence of control.  If we have a contact we can influence, if not, not.  Communication is better than its absence.  In this case, the control and ruling is beneficial for Armenia and is within the framework of the interests of Armenia,” said General Director of the “Rossiya Segodnya” Information Agency, Dmitry Kiselyov, during the meeting with the Armenian journalists at the “Sputnik Armenia” press club answering the question on Russia’s selling weapons to Azerbaijan.

He noted that Armenia is buying weapons from Russia as well and not always “in cash”, “Russia receives in cash from Azerbaijan, develops its military industry and sends weapons to Armenia.  Do you see the chain?  I do not want to say that Azerbaijan is buying weapons for Armenia through Russia.  But if we draw a naked scheme, there is such an element.  Azerbaijan’s economy is developing much faster than Armenia’s economy because there is oil there and in order to pave the inequality, Russia has to take such a step.  The weapon does not shoot in itself, people shoot and it does not matter what weapon it is.  There is no political component here but if there is, then it is done to keep the balance in the region as a result of this complex scheme which I said.”
