Historical moment

April 04,2017 12:55

After the parliamentary elections, a fact, which in my opinion is historical, was ascertained: the main parties participating in the elections declared directly and indirectly that they accept the election results. The exception is perhaps the ORO, which gaining 2 percent of the vote, perhaps presumes that in fair elections it would collect 50 + 1. However, as far as I know, even ORO has not requested for a recount. The rest, “Yelq” and the ARF straightforwardly, and “Tsarukyan” alliance and Congress-PPA by implication make it clear that their future activities will proceed from the actual situation. (The first president’s response even held the following context, “Well, if you do not listen to me, I’ll show you!”, but it does not change the overall picture). First of all, the historical fact is very important for these parties’ effective opposition. Let us take “Yelq” into consideration, who received more than 122 thousand votes from citizens. What would retain this significant political capital? Keeping a portion of that electorate in the street for a couple of weeks, torturing, beating and then sending home to “have tea”? Or going on fighting in the parliament and in the streets by making achievable, specific demands? The political hunch of the “Yelq” leaders encouraged to choose the second option, which definitely is more efficient. In which case do people go out to a demonstration? Obviously, when they are certain that their votes were stolen. If they have sold their votes for the RPA or the “Tsarukyan” alliance, they can theoretically chant in the square, but not from “the bottom of heart”. Certainly, they will complain in the kitchen, on Facebook, perhaps will even curse. Most likely they might migrate. But they will not protect their political rights. These hundreds of thousands of voters, as they say, “correspondingly” have voted for the two parties, and have no room to complain. The 122 thousands of citizens that have voted for “Yelq” do not feel disappointed or cheated. These people should be mobilized, so this political power with their opposition colleagues can achieve some real changes. As the system is parliamentary a qualified majority will be needed for many decisions, and therefore the opposition can force many laws as a “compensation”, in return for the adoption of the “consensus” decisions. It is not a bad thing, such are the rules of a political game. The fact that some parties have decided to play by those rules, is only to be welcomed.
