April 28,2017 13:36

“I am sorry that the Turkish government canceled my visit to Turkey. I wanted to prepare a constructive report and cooperate with Turkey”, told the member of the delegation of Germany to PACE Bernd Fabritius to Aravot.am. We asked whether that cancellation had anything to do with the report adopted by the PACE according to which in Turkey monitoring recommences.

Mr. Fabritius replied: “I have had a brief conversation with the vice-president of  Justice and Development Party and he told me that the decision of the Turkish government was the result of the decision the PACE adopted a day earlier. I have also applied to the Turkish delegation in PACE for them to voice this question, inasmuch as I want to leave for Ankara and proceed with the constructive cooperation. It is important to have a dialogue with Turkey.”

The German delegate informed that he has not received an answer yet: “I wait. I have not canceled my flight yet, and since May 3rd there were meetings planned with the Minister of Justice of Turkey and the president of the Constitutional Court. If they take their decision back, I will go to Ankara, but I still wait. Assuredly, I cannot go there as a tourist.”

Let us note that the German delegate prepares a report on “Turkey’s Loyalty to the Principles of the Legal State” topic. I had The results of the Venice committee but wanted to go to Turkey by myself and get acquainted with the situation: “I urge the government of Turkey to reconsider their decision. Even if they do not reconsider it, I will definitely proceed with the preparation of the report. I should highlight once again – that report will not be a means of punishment, but my wish to draw constructive suggestions.”
