‘In Russia, no pro-Armenian community exists’: Grigory Ayvazyan

August 09,2017 15:36

“Conditioned by the strictest escalation of Russia-West relations a chaos is in place in Russia. A lot of people say Russia is with us, our ally, but that concept is now a history. Russia plays a big game and Karabakh’s destiny is a coin on that table”, opined Azerbaijanologist Grigory Ayvazyan referring to the current possibilities of Artsakh issue resolution.

As he stated, the belief as if Russia is our ally exists no longer: “Russia is stuck in its problems and can sacrifice a lot of things. We have remained alone with Artsakh conflict issue. If some of our leaders cherish hopes that Russians will come and change anything, it is not so, Russia negotiates with Azerbaijan and Turkey.”

According to Ayvazyan, the Republic of Armenia can, for example, warm up the relations with Israel: “If we do not take an initiative now, we will lose not only the pro-Armenian solutions regarding Karabakh issue, but generally – everything.”

Referring to the role of Russian-Armenian community in Artsakh issue, the expert announced: “In Russia, no pro-Armenian community exists. We should work to form that community. The Ministry of Diaspora cherishes hopes regarding the mentioned. It is very good that they implement “Come Home” program, but in the Russian Federation, at Armenian schools, they study the history of Armenia very little, they do not differentiate Armenian church from Orthodox, etc.”
