‘If vaccine existed 30 years ago, my wife would be alive now ’

“Cancer is a terrible thing. If it is possible to be protected from even one type of it by one injection alone, it is worth getting the vaccination”, former Minister of Health Care Ararat Mkrtchyan expressed his opinion, addressing the upcoming vaccination against human papillomavirus. Mkrtchyan explained that 20 years ago her 43-year-old wife died from cervical cancer and if the vaccine existed 30 years ago, his wife would be alive now.

Let us remind you that the Ministry of Health Care plans to vaccinate 13-year-old girls against human papillomavirus by “Gradasil” vaccine. Heated debates go on around the vaccine and vaccination against human papillomavirus in general. Certain opinions constitute that the side effects of this vaccine are many, reaching up to disability or infertility.

Ararat Mkrtchyan states that the public not always accepts innovations, especially in the field of health care, positively: “No one can bring up results of any scientific research directly showing the connection between vaccine against human papillomavirus and infertility. Vaccinations against this illness have commenced since 2007, it is impossible to find a precise connection between vaccinations against papillomavirus and infertility cases in 10 years.”        

The former Minister reminded of the Middle Age while speaking about people against the vaccination: “Inquisition has demolished all scientists, all achievements of science, the ones who told the Earth is round and it rotates around its axis. Anti-vaccination movement has always been present, however, there have always been people who doubted, but vaccinations, in any case, save a lot of lives.”

As stated by the former Minister of Health Care, “living” in a human organism, papillomavirus turns into a cancer year afterwards, 470,000 cases of cervical cancer emerged in the result of this virus are recorded annually in the world, the death toll amounts to 65-70%. And as regards Armenia’s indicators, the average of 250 initial cases of cervical cancer is recorded annually in our country, 60% of which constitute the death toll. Mkrtchyan reminded – some illnesses have disappeared due to vaccinations.
