‘Whoever is nominated by 1/3 , we will support:’ Vahram Baghdasaryan

May 03,2018 00:08

As we have already informed, after the sitting of the Republican Party faction the head of the faction Vahram Baghdasaryan announced their decision.

According to him: “We positively assess the fact that in the National Assembly discussions, four parliamentary factions voiced almost all the concerns in terms of resolving the situation in the country. Part of the concerns voiced by the Republican Party during the question-and-answer session with the Prime Minister candidate were answered, but the most important ones remained unanswered. Those questions are not only the cornerstone of the Republican Party but also of our tomorrow’s country.

The Republican Party silently and unanswered accepted the accusations that in reality had little to do with it. It accepted for the sake of the country, for the sake of tomorrow, with the hope that those who should have perceived our speech, would have.

Now, taking into consideration the imperative to return the country to a steady process, taking note of stances and voting results in the Prime Minister’s election process on May 1, on behalf of the Republican Party faction, I declare:

On May 8, the Republic of Armenia will have a constitutionally elected Prime Minister.

The Republican Party of Armenia will not nominate a Prime Minister candidate.

The Republican Party of Armenia will support the candidate nominated by 1/3 of the parliament to become Prime Minister.

We call for immediately ceasing the unacceptable situation, opening the streets and highways of the capital and the republic, urgently stopping the next blockade of the airport, the propaganda of intolerance and returning to the required action field by constitutional route”.

Since Nikol Pashinyan’s name was not mentioned in the statement, journalists clarified whether they mean they will support Nikol Pashinyan. Vahram Baghdasaryan said that the statement is written very clearly: “Look, whoever is nominated by 1/3 , we will support, since the Republican Party does not nominate a candidate”.

In response to the question whether what made them change their decision, and why did not they do the same during the election, Vahram Baghdasaryan said: “We needed to reveal all that through questions, and we did. We will touch upon those questions on May 8, and support the candidate supported by the ⅓. We do not mention names”.
