Inclusion in the Outcome Document of the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Baku from October 26-28 of provisions that distort the essence of the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict is another attempt by Azerbaijan to seek the support of the following international forum for its policy of isolating Artsakh, persisting confrontation, and preventing the people of Artsakh from exercising their inalienable rights and freedoms.

The Summit’s Outcome Document contains wording regarding Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict that contradicts the principle of objectivity and impartiality and is aimed at undermining the efforts of the international community, in particular, the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group on the peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Azerbaijan’s abuse of its position as a host to include provisions in the text of the Summit’s Outcome Document that contradict the rationale of the settlement of the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict is an open disrespect for the Movement.

It is regrettable that the Non-Aligned Movement allows Azerbaijan to use its platform for anti-Armenian propaganda and the promotion of a foreign policy agenda that does not meet the goals and principles of the Movement itself.

We urge the NAM member states, most of which gained independence and sovereignty as a result of the realization of the right to self-determination, to remain committed to their ideals and the spirit of the Movement and show respect for the exercise of the right to self-determination and development by the people of Artsakh.
