“The Ministries of Health of both countries are also discussing this issue. Negotiations regarding the content of the agreement are complete and the document is now in the process of being ratified by both sides. It is predicted that this document will be signed soon, which will establish additional opportunities for Armenia and Russia to cooperate on biological security,” Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov told reporters during his official visit to Yerevan. He was answering the question of how likely it is that an agreement will be signed between Armenia and Russia on allowing Russian scientists to enter Armenian biological laboratories.

“We believe that such cooperation with our allies suits our agenda and they are good for security. We hope to cooperate with Armenia and our other colleagues in this sector,” Lavrov said. He also noted that the USA does not agree with their approach and is trying to establish its own biological laboratories across the world.

Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan emphasized that the issue of biological security is very important for Armenia. “We were successfully able to strengthen cooperation with our colleagues in this sector over the past few years.”

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had announced at one point that the biological laboratories in Armenia solely belong to the Republic of Armenia.
