‘He will leave whether he wants to or not’: Strikes continue demanding resignation of Arayik Harutyunyan

November 11,2019 19:25

Several students from the Faculty of Philology at the Yerevan State University boycotted their classes and demanded the resignation of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, Arayik Harutyunyan. “He will resign and leave whether he wants to or not. He needs to leave while it is still early. Delaying his resignation will have consequences for him. Someone who calls students unruly but who accepts homosexuality needs to leave. Why does he want to shorten the amount of time we have for Armenian language classes and separate language and culture?” protesters were saying.

Protesters claim that their fight does not have to do with any political party, contrary to what some people are saying. They are fighting to uphold Armenian language, literature, and history classes in schools.

Students are going from university to university and calling upon other students to join them in their strike for Arayik Harutyunyan’s resignation. The march will end in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, where the youth wing of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation is carrying out a sit-in.
