“Our country needs to have a professional army because we will face problems in 5 years from now. Russia will leave in 5 years. We don’t know Turkey’s and the others’ roles,” the former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army and former Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh, Samvel Babayan, told reporters during a briefing regarding the fact that Russia and its peacekeepers will no longer be in Artsakh in five years from now.
“Planting flags will no longer solve the problem. We must be ready,” Samvel Babayan said.
According to him, Azerbaijan has proven with its statements that it will not agree to extend the period of time for the peacekeepers to remain in Artsakh in five years. “Why should it agree?”
Regarding the statements made by Armenian officials expressing willingness to speak with Turkey, Samvel Babayan expressed that Armenia cannot ever have any relations with Turkey.
