EU supports women entrepreneurship in Armenia

April 15,2019 19:55

On 11 April, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Piotr Świtalski opened the 5th Women’s Club, established in the country with help of the EU-funded ‘Support to SME Development in Armenia’ (SMEDA) project.

The project also helped establish the “WE Clubs” platform – the leading module of the Women Entrepreneurship initiative, which aims to promote and encourage women entrepreneurs who gather regularly to share and exchange experiences, establish new business connections, learn and get inspired by each other’s successes.

So far, five WE Clubs have been held in Yerevan, and two in Goris, Syunik province, each on a specific business topic. The clubs will eventually be transferred to women-led consortia to ensure their future, sustainable continuation in Yerevan and other provinces.

Since 2017, the EU-funded ‘Support to SME Development in Armenia’ (EU-SMEDA) project has been supporting Armenian start-ups with two types of grant – Innovation Matching Grants and Science and Technology Entrepreneurship grants.
