EU extends sanctions against violations of Ukraine’s territorial integrity

EU NEIGHBOURS. On 10 September, the Council of the EU extended the restrictive measures over violations of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence until 15 March 2021.

The measures consist of asset freezing and travel restrictions, and currently apply to 175 persons and 44 entities. Other EU measures in response to the crisis in Ukraine include:

  • economic sanctions for specific sectors of the Russian economy (in place until 31 January 2021);
  • restrictions in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, limited to the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol (in place until 23 June 2021).

The decision was adopted by the Council by written procedure. The legal acts were published in the Official Journal on 11 September 2020.
