Classmates from Jrakan unexpectedly meet up again in Dilijan months later

March 13,2021 22:30

After the 44-Day War, students from Artsakh who temporarily sheltered in Dilijan visited the Ayb School to conduct chemistry laboratory tests within the framework of the Teach for Hope program initiated by Teach Armenia.

During their visit, Ellen and Meline, who were classmates from Jrakan, met up unexpectedly for the first time since the war.

The classmates lost contact during the war because they constantly had to move.

After studying in different schools in Dilijan, the classmates never had to opportunity to meet.

One of the Teach for Hope teachers, Lilit Tonoyan, who also moved to Dilijan from Artsakh, organized a visit for the students from Artsakh to the Ayb School within the framework of the scientific-cognitive experiments class, during which the classmates had a surprise meeting.

The close friends from Jrakan were unable to hide their emotions after their surprise meeting. “When we saw each other, we started to cry while hugging each other without saying a word. Meline and I were the closest of friends in Jrakan, but we lost contact with each other after the war, and I didn’t know that she was in Dilijan as well. I didn’t think I would see Meline again. We cried from happiness while hugging each other for a few minutes, and then we spoke about our Jrakan classmates whom we’d heard from. I’m happy that I found my friend months later,” Ellen Ohanyan told Aravot Daily.

Lilit Tonoyan, who also became emotional from the friends’ surprise visit, told Aravot Daily in an interview that these meetings between children from Artsakh living in Dilijan will take place on a regular basis since the scientific-cognitive group was intended to increase interest among children for the natural sciences and to make the natural sciences more accessible to children.

“Through exciting experiments and active work, children will learn about a number of phenomena and prepare experiments on their own. The experiments they conducted during their visit to the Ayb School were so encouraging for the children that they wondered where they could find the chemicals to repeat the experiments at home.”
