In Azatamut, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Endorses a Village Headman Who Was Formerly Convicted and Presently Accused of Hooliganism

On September 23, local elections will take place in the region of Tavush. There are 3 candidates for community leader in the community of Azatamut, region of Ijevan – Zhora Martirosyan, the incumbent village headman announced as a candidate by the RPA, Gagik Balasanyan, an RPA member, and Artem Saribekyan, also an RPA member. The latter was the deputy of the village headman of Azatamut for 12 years in the past.

Gagik Balasanyan has withdrawn his candidacy.

Zhora Martirosyan was fined 150 thousand AMD by the trial court of the region of  Tavush on December 28, 2006, according to Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (hooliganism). His three sons – Robert, Arkadi and Karen Martirosyan – were convicted at the same time.

Now charges are laid by the Tavush investigation department of the police against Zhora Martirosyan according to the same article. Zhora’s son Robert Martirosyan was arrested in

connection with that case; he was released by the attorney’s decision. Zhora Martirosyan became a member of the RPA in 2011, before that, he had been a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party.
