Pashinyan bans Special Investigation Service investigators from hanging any official’s picture in their offices

June 12,2018 17:37

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented the newly appointed head of the Special Investigation Service, Sasun Khachatryan, to the staff and thanked former head Vahram Shahinyan.

He said that the law stipulates that the Special Investigation Service deals with offenses involving crimes committed by law enforcement, judicial, executive, and election-related bodies, and it shows the exceptional importance that the Special Investigation Service has in our lives.

He said: “When we say that all are equal before the law, we mean that everyone is equal before the law and we do not mean that some are more equal before the law. When we say that corruption should be removed from the Republic of Armenia, we mean that it should be removed and we do not mean that corruption may remain in some places”.

Pashinyan stressed that it is mainly the Special Investigation Service to ensure this, and that he hopes it will implement its function properly.

He said he wants to solve a small issue in the relation between him and the Special Investigation Service: “I want to say that there should be no picture of a high-ranking official in the Special Investigation Service investigators’ offices because the Special Investigation Service deals with cases that might involve those officials as well. There should be only Armenia’s coat of arms and flag in the Special Investigation Service investigators’ rooms, and that symbol should express the function performed by the Service”.
